Turbine Case PWHT completed, Heat Bands being removed

OSR has become the vendor of choice for innovative heat treat work in the electrical power industry. The side photograph shows a PWHT heater set-up on the top half of a turbine case. These turbine units are normally in constant operation, but when they require repair, rapid turnaround is necessary. Completing a timely and accurate PWHT after weld repair was critical to keeping pace with the project schedule. This rapid turnaround allowed the client to return the Unit back into service in record time.

Turbine Case dimensions: Outside diameter: 12’- 6” Length of the PWHT area: 14’ Vessel wall thickness: 8” Estimated Weight: 150,000lb Equipment: 18 x 70Kw Units requiring a total of 1,260 Kw Combinations of different sized heating elements are used to obtain the best heating results. These heating elements are installed on the exterior shell of the turbine case to allow effective control of temperatures in the thin and very thick, high, heat sink areas of each half of the case.
